“My family just means so much to me.”

This necklace I've had for quite a long time. I wear it all the time. I never take it off.
My dad’s dad was a jeweller in the jewellery quarter in Birmingham. I never met him because he died before me and my siblings were born. I thought that he had made this necklace for years and years, but it turns out I was mixing it up with another necklace.
He was a very confident person. My grandma was a hair model, and she was confident too, they were like a power couple. He owned a jewellery company in Birmingham.
My dad used to go there when he was younger. He told me the story of one time he was sat underneath his dad’s desk in the in the workplace and there was this little button and he'd always wanted to push it. One day he decided to push this button. It set off this whole alarm system. He thought that his dad would be really angry with him for doing it, but his dad just laughed.
Even when I found out that it wasn't made by my grandad, I still wear it because it reminds me of him and it's kind of like a piece of him because I never got to meet him. The necklace was actually a gift my dad gave to my mum quite early on in their marriage, so it makes me think of them as well.
I'm very attached to my family. Especially over this past year I've become so much closer with all of my brothers. My family just means so much to me.
It reminds me I need to just enjoy my family and spend time with them while I still can. I want to make sure that I’m not just filling up my time with things that don’t really matter, keeping things that do matter at the heart of my life.
